Dorigo Systems Ltd. adds new Surface Mount Equipment to increase capacity and process capabilities.

Burnaby BC, November 28, 2001- Dorigo Systems Ltd. is excited to announce the addition of a new high speed Surface Mount assembly line. The significant pieces of equipment are manufactured by Panasonic and include the latest all-visual multifunctional placement machine and a high-speed, highly flexible chip shooter.

The multifunctional placement machine has 3D vision capability. This is a tremendous advantage when dealing with very expensive BGA devices, as the 3D vision allows us to ensure that the part is to mechanical specification prior to placement. Most other placement systems do a quick laser scan simply for parts centering. With 3D, we actually get to ensure that the balls are all there, are of the right size and are co-planar prior to placement. We are also able to do 100% co-planarity inspection on the fine leads of all QFP devices; this machine has the speed to do it in real time. The 3D vision will enhance our component range capability for automated parts placement, in that the 3D camera gives us the ability to handle parts such as connectors, switches etc. that many EMS providers place manually.

The high-speed flexible chip shooter has component feeder bank capacity for 150 dual feeders with the potential for 300 different components on 8 mm tape, and can place components down to 0201 in size. This feeder quantity will allow us to keep many standard parts on the machine, thus reducing setup and turnaround times. Although the machine is considered a chip shooter, a variety of parts can be placed with speed and accuracy, up to a size of 32 mm, so long as they are on tape.
